SMS Segments
Not every message costs exactly one credit. Here’s what you need to know about how messages are counted:- Standard SMS — up to 160 characters counts as a single segment (1 credit)
- Long messages — messages over 160 characters are automatically split into segments of up to 153 characters each (to accommodate segment header bytes); each segment costs 1 credit
- Unicode messages — messages containing emoji, Arabic, Chinese, or other non-GSM characters use Unicode encoding, which reduces the per-segment limit to 70 characters (or 67 characters per segment for multi-part Unicode messages)
